Our wellness policy is designed to educate children to make better food choices for themselves for the rest of their lives.  Because of this drive toward healthful eating we only offer high-quality, healthy foods.

PTO Mission
The purpose of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is to:

  1. Organize and coordinate parent volunteer efforts
  2. Help and support the teachers and staff
  3. Create and sustain a sense of community among the families at the school
  4. Support communication within the school
  5. Identify needs particular to our schools and to provide financial support in meeting
    those needs

The PTO organizes many events throughout the year including an ice cream social, book fairs, and various community service activities.  The PTO also publishes a monthly newsletter to inform and engage the school community.

PTO members are invited to participate in regularly scheduled meetings.  Each PTO member family is entitled to one vote for the election of PTO officers and budgetary approval.  In addition, PTO meetings provide an open forum for discussions between parents and faculty regarding the needs of the school and suggested improvements.  These meetings are a great opportunity to share your ideas with a group dedicated to the betterment of the school.

Both Montessori School of North Hoffman and Lotus Montessori include a fully-equipped kitchen.  Our chef prepares fresh meals daily, in keeping with our school’s wellness policy.  Individual classrooms often supplement lunch with side dishes prepared by the children in the classroom.

We take the health of our children very seriously.  Our wellness policy is designed to educate children to make better food choices for themselves for the rest of their lives.  Because of this drive toward healthful eating we only offer high-quality, healthy foods.  Only reduced fat/fat free milk and water are served and at least half of the grains served are whole grain items.  The foods we provide have no more than 35% of their calories from fat (excluding nuts, seeds and peanut butter).  Side dishes, pastas, meats, and soups are prepared to ensure a low sodium content.

Upon sitting down for lunch, children are given at least 20 minutes to complete their meal.  Grace and courtesy are stressed at mealtime.  Snacks are also served during the school day.  Snacks consist primarily of fresh fruit and vegetables with water to drink.
